British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund
Choosing a New Path Through Positive Change
Thursday, May 13, 2 PM to 3:15 PM on Zoom
I am looking forward to speaking at a virtual workshop hosted by the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund in celebration of Nurses Week 2021. I will be leading participants through a session dedicated to healing Body, Mind and Spirit by providing tools useful in building resilience, reducing stress & anxiety, and increasing the body’s ability to heal.
Managing Anxiety: 2 PM to 3:15 PM
What if I told you that you could interrupt those anxious feelings; those thoughts that keep circling in your mind; or even reduce those cravings? Consider anxiety as a network of neural clusters in the brain that create an area of association. The more those cells fire together the thicker and stronger the cluster becomes as the pattern is reinforced. And as that happens, it becomes much more difficult to control those unwanted feelings or thoughts. The result? You may feel easily triggered- as if it just automatically happens!
New research in neuroscience tells us that our brains are malleable and capable of changing even the most ingrained patterns. So, each time you stop that pattern of anxiety, or interrupt those unwanted thoughts, you are rewiring your brain. Using self- directed neuroplasticity I will guide participants through using a few easy tools to establish beneficial clusters of neurons and a wonderful relaxation response. And, as these tools are practised you will continue building resilience, reducing stress, and increasing your body’s ability to heal. As these tools become your choice of response discover yourself stepping into your own power as you choose how you want to respond and react!
Neuroplasticity is the first step in my three step approach in helping clients overcome anxiety. Hypnosis is then used to rediscover useful inner resources and to neutralize past triggers while reprogramming responses. In this workshop I will also guide participants through a meditation to enjoy a focused state of relaxed awareness, similar to hypnosis.
